03 MarFokker GNSS system demonstrated
The Fokker Integrated GNSS navigation system was demonstrated this week.
The system was installed in the Fokker Services engineering simulator at their Holland-based facility. You can watch a video of the complete simulation HERE.
The GNSS receiver and Navigation Status Display (NSD) were developed by a team led by FreeFlight Systems under contract to Fokker Services.
“This demonstration of an affordable RNP retrofit system for non-GPS equipped aircraft shows that 21st century navigation performance is available today to any operator who wants to take advantage of reduced fuel cost, preferred routing and increased access to the modern airspace system,” says Tim Taylor, FreeFlight Systems President and CEO.
“An added benefit is that the GNSS source is ADS-B capable – in all major jurisdictions including the USA, opening up even more operational benefit,” he says.
“FreeFlight Systems is very proud to be a part of the Fokker Services team that is making this advanced technology so readily available.”
The system represents an affordable way to integrate GPS and therefore get RNP capability in a classic air transport and regional aircraft. The system can also be applied to any larger aircraft that is equipped with IRS/FMS but not GNSS.
“The advantage of RNP, our numerous similarly improved aircraft tracking in all flight phases, the ability to add new routes and so on- together with attractive pricing- all help make a solid business case for your operation,” said a spokesperson from Fokker Services.
“We leave the existing system untouched,” continues the spokesperson, “and you just use the FMS, navigation display and the autopilot as before.”
The system is in the final certification stages. It will go into production during the second quarter of 2011.
