07 MarFreeFlight part of Gulf of Mexico NextGen forum
The 2011 Heli-Expo is underway in Orlando, Fla. and we’re talking NextGen and ADS-B.
FreeFlight Systems is participating in the Gulf of Mexico ADS-B forum during the expo.
The expo runs through tomorrow, Mar. 8 and is the world’s largest tradeshow in the international helicopter community. FreeFlight Systems is at the expo and we’re honored to be a part of the events and to present on ADS-B.
Tim Taylor, FreeFlight Systems president and CEO, will be presenting during the Gulf of Mexico ADS-B Avionics Forum tomorrow. He will be speaking on the availability of compliant ADS-B equipment for helicopters operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
The forum is being conducted by the Helicopter Association International and is made up of airframe and avionics manufacturers, helicopter operators, and members of the FAA.
“The Gulf of Mexico demonstrated the high degree of helicopter industry interest in ADS-B and all the benefits it provides,” said Jim Linney, FAA.
“These strong benefits,” Linney continues, ”Can continue into other helicopter missions like EMS, Law Enforcement, Fire/Rescue, Tour Operators, and news gathering.”
According to FlightGlobal, “The FAA four years ago kicked off the programme by signing a memorandum of agreement with Helicopter Association International (HAI) and the Helicopter Safety Advisory Council, a group made up of Gulf of Mexico operators. The FAA’s role was to develop, install and maintain the ADS-B infrastructure as well as voice communications and weather reporting system.”
Discussion will be focused on current ADS-B services in the Gulf of Mexico, avionics compliance with the ADS-B Final Rule as well as ADS-B upgrades to helicopters that already have ADS-B Out capability.
The forum will take place tomorrow (3/8) from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. in Room S230 A & B of the Orange County Convention Center.
