29 AprFreeFlight talking ADS-B at AAA trade show
FreeFlight Systems is talking ADS-B at the Alaska Airmen’s Association 2011 Trade Show and Conference in Anchorage, Alaska.
Alaska is sometimes described as the “flyingest” state in United States and – according to the Alaska Airmen’s Association – boasts more pilots and aircraft per capita than anywhere in the world.
The trade show is in it’s 14th season and features more than 275 aviation exhibitors. More than 21,000 pilots and aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend.
Jamie Luster, FreeFlight Systems director of sales and marketing, is at the trade show.
“FreeFlight is in Alaska to display our ADS-B solutions,” says Luster.
“We can provide upgrade solutions to the Alaskan Airman flying with the now, not-compliant Garmin GDL90 systems,” she says.
You can find FreeFlight at the Merrill Field Instruments Booth.
The two-day trade show features a full schedule with seminars and lectures on everything from “Aviation Transportation in Alaska,” to “Fatal and Serious Injury Accidents in Alaska.” Besides the scheduled events, the trade show is a prime opportunity for forging new industry connections and getting face-to-face opportunities with experts.
Aviation in Alaska can at times be risky. The NTSB reported 79 nonfatal accidents and 10 fatal accidents, with a total of 19 fatalities in 2010. The most prominent of the crashes was the accident that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens, William “Bill” Phillips Sr., and three others. There have been countless other incidents over the years.
Alaska was also one of the first states to adopt statewide ADS-B implementation.
ADS-B and the NextGen system were tested under the Capstone project in Alaska from 1999 through 2006. Air traffic controllers in the state have been using the technology since last year.
The Alaska Airmen’s Association 2011 Trade Show and Conference runs through Sunday. If you’re in attendance, say “hello” to Jamie at the Merrill Field Instruments booth! And we’d love to see your photos of the trade show. You can post them to our Facebook page HERE.
